When I was 11 years old I had my first panic attack, I was away from home at camp and home sick. Some people in those days said "what a woos" but being able to look back on it now as an adult I realise I was a vulnerable little boy who was cold, wet, unhappy and a long way from home. Needless to say with encouragement, some kind words and a mug of warm soup and help from a concerned guardian I was able to complete the camping holiday and seemed no worse for ware.
However it set a president for me with Panic attacks and claustrophobia resulting in it becoming over time an everyday part of my life and behaviour. Occasionally I would have a panic attack in circumstances where I was unhappy or uncomfortable, for instance being shut in enclosed spaces like lifts, or being forced to perform in public or even just shopping. I became queasy when I was in a train passing through a tunnel and there was no way in this world I could fly!
I am now 55 years old and have had to deal with the effects of panic anxiety disorder all my life. If like me you suffer that feeling of intense gut fear or panic at being closed in I completely understand and empathise with your condition and you must read on.
Sound familiar to you?... You do not have to suffer these feelings.
Panic attacks are not a figment of your imagination they are real, very frightening and can dominate your life and everyday situations. It is important you seek help overcoming these issues but it can be a struggle knowing where to turn for help with psychiatrists and psychologists seeming to understand the condition but have little or no insight as to how to cure the problem. I tried the usual stance ignore it, it will go away, which of course was ok until it happened again. I ended up at 20 years old taking prescribed drugs which only made me lethargic and out of touch.
You do not have to put up with these feelings.
At 55 years old I can now say with a big sigh of relief those feelings are in my past. My life is almost completely free of panic attacks and claustrophobia, with some reservation I am able to use most lifts and I flew to see my friend in Paris for the first time last year. Let’s be realistic however I do not think anybody can be totally free of this complaint but after finally seeking help I can live with the little twinges I get now and then knowing I have the ability to manipulate and control my life.
How did I do it?
With the help of professional people who are specialists in offering help in the field of Panic Anxiety Disorder. If like me you suffer in silence you no longer need to do so
Read about the fantastic way you can rid yourself of those feelings and gain control of your life again. I am so glad I did, my only sadness is.. I wish I discovered this 35 years ago.
